Third Church in Dorchester (first) holds its first service.

October 31, 1813

(Oct.) Originally the Third Religious Society and known as Richmond Hall, the church is located at 1111 – 1113 Washington Street. The congregation was established on May 6, 1813, by members of the Second Church protesting Rev. John Codman’s refusal to exchange pulpits with the liberal members of the Boston Ministers’ Association. It met initially in the Dorchester Reading Room on May 6, 1813, Edward Richmond is the first minister. The congregation moves to a new building (second) on Richmond Street in 1840.* The congregation is dissolved in 1944.
